Performances at the United States Embassy in Moscow and
the historic Heritage Garden
Celebrating 200 years of United States-Russia Diplomatic Relations, the Dallas Brass was invited to perform for United States Ambassador William Burnes and 2500 of his guests on the grounds of the Spaso House in Moscow for an Independence Day celebration. The Spaso House has been the residence of American ambassadors in Moscow since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and the former Soviet Union in 1933. Photographs of the event can be viewed at the embassy web site.
In addition to other venues, the Dallas Brass performed an outdoor public concert for an enthusiastic, standing room only crowd at the Hermitage Gardens, located in the heart of Moscow. The park is a popular and charming summer concert location with a sprinkling of decorative park furniture, gazebos, flowerbeds, restaurants, shops, and by night it is lit up by 19th century-style lanterns. It opened in 1894 and boasts three historic theatres: New Opera, Sphere, and the Hermitage.
"What a perfect concert spot," said Michael Levine. "The Russian people were delightful and friendly and very appreciative of our show (of primarily American music). But I must say, they especially loved the Tchaikovsky encore! We look forward to going back!"
