Charles received his classical training at The Juilliard School, in New York City, followed by a year of study abroad as a Fulbright Scholar at the Paris Conservatory. Shortly after winning the Juilliard trumpet competition as a freshman, Charlie was the first ever to win 1st Prize in the National Trumpet Competition in both Jazz and Classical divisions. He later completed his jazz studies at the Manhattan School of Music. In 2007, under the auspices of Jazz @ Lincoln Center and The US State Department, Charlie performed as a Jazz Ambassador with his quartet throughout West Africa, India, and China. As a composer, Charlie has been commissioned by Chamber Music America and The Doris Duke Foundation.
